Building Younger Audiences
Kathryn Rose - vocalist
As a singer songwriter, “Canada’s original bombshell” Kathryn Rose is known for her artful, cerebral brand of sexy/sad/funny cinematic pop, over the course of five solo albums to date.
Kathryn’s long artistic career has been an exercise in reinvention. She was a successful actress in film, TV and stage for about a decade until she took the money and ran as they say, to make music her focus after a lead role in the National Lampoon film franchise. Kathryn then worked her way into the upper echelon of session vocalists/voice artists, and has sung live or in studio with hundreds of other artists', on jingles, voiceovers, and TV and film scores. As one of Canada's top go-to voices, she's worked with Barenaked Ladies, Sarah McLachlan (world tour and live concert DVD), Kevin Breit, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Melanie Doane, Patti Labelle, Sir Tom Jones, Stephan Moccio, Ron Sexsmith, Anne Murray, Martin Fry (ABC), The Spoons, Susan Aglukark, Esthero, Marc Jordan, Amy Sky, Ian Thomas, Micah Barnes, Oliver Schroer and more, the last two seasons of Canadian Idol as a member of the live band, and even a duet with hockey bad boy Claude Lemieux in Battle Of The Blades.
Kathryn received a nomination for Pop Album of the Year at the Canadian Indie Awards; was featured as the cover story of Toronto's famed NOW Magazine (who also named her Toronto's Best Jingle Singer); she's been an International Songwriting Competition semi-finalist who charted for 23 straight weeks on Bravo! Television's Top 30 chart; her songs have been placed in film and television and have been covered by other artists including Melanie Doane and Sarah Slean, both with the acclaimed Art Of Time Ensemble; and Kathryn sat on the Board of CIRAA (Canadian Independent Recording Artists’ Association) from 2008-16.
In addition to being a long time core artist with symphonic rock touring company Jeans 'n Classics, Kathryn’s organizational skill set is put to good use as office manager/administrator and tour coordinator for the company.
Recent notable solo appearances include Luminato Festival’s Neil Young tribute at Massey Hall, George Koller’s International Divas concert series, Jazz FM’s Music of Paul Simon and Songs of the Brill Building, and special musical guest at the ACTRA Awards. Kathryn’s five solo albums are widely available at her website and iTunes.
Kathryn is currently contemplating a few new recording projects, and spends a great deal of time cleaning out school backpacks and laughing everyday at the antics of her young daughter and son. Find her at www.kathrynrose.com
